Plug-in Hybrid kWh/day [RE-wrenches]

Thanks everyone for the feedback on EV. The numbers vary a bit (which is
reassuring, because it means not everyone is sucking each others exhaust)
but the average is about 7 kWh for a 20 mile (RT) commute. Perhaps 5 kWh if
everything is optimum (flat terrain, light foot, high efficiency on all
electronics).

Here in the City of Los Angeles (LADWP) we pay $0.121 per kWh on a
residential flat rate. Time of Use is a discussion for another day, but very
interesting. The "energy cost" per day of an EV commute is $0.85.

A petroleum-based commute at 25 mpg and $4.00 per gallon ($0.16/mi) pencils
out at $3.20 per day.

This is a factor of 3.8 X in favor of EV. But the exercise is really about
PV...

Assuming 4.25 kWh/day/kWp for PV, what I need to do now is look at the
incremental cost of adding another 1.6 kWp of PV for a customer who is
already committed to a grid-tied PV project, amortize the cost over 20
years, taking into account incentives, declining production, etc., and
figure out what the cost per kWh will be. I already know the numbers will be
competitive with purchasing the electricity from LADWP.

I think this tie-in between EV and PV is a winner. Any comments would be
appreciated.

Why are we not hearing from Sharky about this electric vehicle stuff?
