Outback AC coupled with a PV powered inverter [RE-wrenches]

This has been done with success - the only two issues are that its 240
VAC and what to do with excess power when the battery is full.

If its a grid-tied system with modest loads doing back-up - then a
simple relay between the PV powered and the output of the OutBack will
work with it controlled by the AUX output signal.

If its an off-grid system, then I would advise using a more advanced DC
diversion system using a tri-star or C40 controller to do a PWM type
diversion and then have the AUX output controlled relay as a redundant
control.

The 240VAC issue can be tricky as there will be some voltage rise
through the X240 when stepping it down to 120VAC is you want to use a
single OutBack inverter for the main battery inverter. In an off-grid
system this is acceptable - but with a grid-tie system the additional
voltage rise through the transformer and the wiring can result in the AC
voltage at the PV powered inverter hitting the upper limit of the AC
voltage window right when the inverter is selling it full output to the
grid. For this reason I would advise using two OutBack inverters to
create the 240VAC which eliminates the X240 transformer.

I hope this makes sense - let me know if you have more questions.
