I did a system on raspberry island for the park service, 24V system, and 
they had a 12V samlex converter to get 12V for use in the caretaker's house 
(batteries in a different building) I had them hook the converter to a 
switch.  the Idle current from the converter was substantially higher (1A 
24vdc) than the search/ilde current for the xantrex 4024 SW+ producing AC.

either tap 12vdc off a high efficiency converter (solarconverters?) for your 
LED (nightlights, under cabinert lights?) or just use 120VAC.  makes it 
easier for the homeowner too.
