The efficiency is a real challenge.
NOT! For those of us in the field, doing installs far away from home,
RELIABILITY, even if it is pricy. That is the real challenge!
Reputation and loss of income, traveling
doing repairs on poor quality boards, ect. can far outweigh the initial
cost.

The company is called Gaia Power Technologies out of New York -

http://www.gaiapowertechnologies.com/Charge_Controller.html

Last time we talked with them they were still in development and it was
not listed yet.

They are saying it will have a 3kW capacity and a retail list price of
$1300 ($0.43 per watt).

Compare this to a 3kW capacity and price of $650 for an OutBack MX60...
or a 4kW capacity and price of $750 for the new FM80 - ($0.19 per watt)

You can install quite a bit of additional breakers and wiring for the
cost difference of $650 USD... but there are times a higher input
voltage would be very nice to have.

OutBack has also have been working on higher input voltage charge
controllers as well - but haven't been able to reach the necessary
combination of high efficiency, power capacity and a reasonable price
level. The efficiency is a real challenge - if its not high enough then
its just not worth offering in my opinion.

We also prefer to wait until we have the real product in the field
before we start making claims about its performance...
