Mick says: I mentioned recently how my very first Xantrex XW charge
controller had arrived DOA...in Africa! Abraham's corollary to Murphy's
law, you know...

We finally worked through all the replacement logistics, involving
luggage space in the suitcases of friendly travelers, etc. I thought we
were all done when a $150 check showed up from Xantrex. It looks like
they applied the same policy as with GT inverters to this controller
problem. I can't think of any other reason for the check because I've
never even sold a GT inverter.

OK, either this was a mistake--but "Gosh, I've already cashed the
check",

OR: this was a special dispensation just for me because of the pain &
suffering...nah...I've never gotten kid glove treatment before,

OR: Xantrex has upped the ante in the area of customer support for MPPT
charge controllers.

I hope the latter explanation is the right one. I hope this will be
confirmed by Mark Edmunds of Xantrex, and I hope other high end charge
control manufacturers will follow suit. It doesn't have to be Africa for
a dead controller to be a costly problem.

P.S. I had a DOA last year on the modestly priced MPPT500 control from
BZ Products. Frank Lewon kindly send a small, non-official benefit my
way as compensation. Good show!
