Mini grid? [RE-wrenches]

Has anyone hooked a grid tie inverter to their battery based PV system?  

 

I have a customer that would like Grid tie with battery backup, and already
has a 3 KW Pv system with a fronius inverter.   He also wants to install
more PV.  Has anyone done the Sunny Island type installation with any other
off grid inverter?  I really like the idea of being able to have the fronius
feed into the outback system on the ac side if the power's out long term.  

 

Seems to me that I heard someone talking about that as if it was do-able say
with an outback inverter.   I'd recommend a sunny Island, but it appears to
not backfeed the grid. 

 

Let the thinking begin.
