S-5 clamps [RE-wrenches]

Marco,

We have installed just one system using S-5 clamps on a standing seam metal
roof, and I tried to research just the question you are pondering. I also
got nowhere.

This may be a clue to the lack of data. When I inquired I was told that the
clamp-to-seam perpendicular pull out strength would typically exceed the
strength of the attachment of the metal roof to its underlayment. In other
words, if the wind is strong enough everything will become a kite: PV, S-5
and the metal roof -- and whatever pieces of the underlayment come along for
the ride.

Hardly a reassuring engineering approach.

For those of you who have used S-5 clamps to attach module mounting
hardware, have you ever come across or had calculated the attachment value
of this method in terms of what windspeed they can handle? Our friends at
the S-5 clamp website are none too forthcoming with this kind of important
info.

thanks,
