Wrenches, I have proposed a 15 kW array on a large metal building roof.
I plan on using UniStrut 1 5/8 tall, to clear the R Panel ribs, for a
mounting structure for the aluminum CompRail mount that Sunearth makes.
My only question concerns the attachment points for the strut flush to
the roof N-S oriented, at 5 foot intervals and directly thru the roof
panel and into the steel purlins. I have priced both pre-galv plated
steel and aluminum strut but the point of attachment is my big question
mark. I thought that butyl tape would work well since both are flat
surfaces and shaded by the PV. Rain will rarely be a problem,
unfortunately, but the heat will be intense 8-9 months out of the year.
What other methods exist to prevent possible metal to metal corrosion
and leaks, assuming some day it does rain, on this low pitch metal roof.
Thanks as always...
