Hey Steve!

Sounds like an awesome system.

What did you use for battery banks? I think we would all be interested

We've just installed a system similar to this to power the Isle of
Foula located 20 miles into the atlantic off Shetland (The UK's most
remote inhabited location).
See: Isle of Foula on the Projects section of our website:
www.windandsun.co.uk.

This uses a 3-phase island network at 3.3kV. Transformers are used to
step up from generation and down to consumers.
System includes 2 x 25kW diesel generators, a 19.2kWp PV system and
three 3-phase clusters of SMA SI-4500 Sunny Island inverters to give
a 54kW 30min rating. Remote monitoring is via a Sunny Control Plus. Hydro &
wind will be added in the future and so far operation has
been excellent!
Our biggest concern washow the inverters would behave on energising
the network of transformers & loads - but the inverters hardly
blinked!

We're now in the middle of a bigger system with two 80kW diesels, PV
three hydro turbines & wind for the Isle of Eigg.
This uses 4 x 3-phase clusters of SMA SI-5048 5kW inverters (60kW
total) and I think these inverters should soon be available in the
US.

Hope this is useful.
