Battery/generator upgrade.... [RE-wrenches]

An elderly customer of mine, in a semi-rural location, after suffering
thru a 36 hour blackout, has decided to upgrade his 6.6kW tracker system
to include a backup battery/genset. I'll refrain from "I told you so's"
since he declined the extra cost back when I suggested it in 04.
Anyway, the CEC Lists of Eligible Renewable Equipment does not include
backup generators and the generator www sites seldom give enough
technical information critical to the PV community. Even the occasional
Wrenches discussions don't touch on more than a couple of brands and
models and specific details of each. This leads me to conclude that few
if any generators are ideal for this type application.
So has someone somewhere compiled a list of attributes that one needs to
look for, or look out for, when sizing a grid-tied battery backup
genset. 3-2500U's are in place now.
Thanks as always...
