Thanks David,

I have a 4000Ah bank at 48 Volts.

What minimum current would you charge a bank that size at?

Do AGM's stand lower charging currents without sulphating ??

Carl,

It's difficult to achieve C/10 regularly here in Northern Vermont, even when
designed for that. I have had good performance and longevity with different
makes and models of LA storage Batteries when charging with rates of between
C10 to C20. The key is to fully charge the cells, at least every seven to
ten days. I define Full Charge as reaching 2.46v per cell (at 77 degrees F)
bulk voltage and holding the voltage there for two hours absorption. Some
battery types will have different bulk voltage numbers that vary from this.
The key is the absorption time while staying at the bulk voltage number.
Checking with a hydrometer will confirm how successful you are with a
battery charging regime.

Hi there,

How critical is charging at C10 required to prevent sulphation and does this
apply to all battery technology - flooded, sealed, AGM etc.

Would it be acceptable to achieve C10 occasionally?

I have a system design where C10 will be achieved during periods with good
sun and/or wind but not all the time.

Your comments appreciated.
