Alan,

Thanks for the help, this is exactly what I needed.

Carl,
While we haven't yet had cause to use one, the gen start unit by Atkinson
has been reviewed pretty well here.

Here's a prior post on this topic:

We use the vented versions of the OutBack (VFX...., because they are
the best watts/$) which does not use the Aux relay to power the vent
fan like the turbo version of the FX. So the Aux relay is free to use
for two wire generator control. For three wire generators, we've used
the Atkinson Electronics Generator Start Control Module (GSCM,
www.atkinsonelectronics.com/list.asp?lt=gen&mn=1, available from AEE)
to allow the OutBack to control the generator. Worked great on a 1960s
Onan. :)

I see on Atkinson's web page that they now have a mini version of the
GCSM that should work great with the OutBack, and be less expensive.

take care,

Randy Brooks>

Can you get it down under?

Hi there,

I have a client with a Honda petrol generator that has remote manual start
but not two wire start option.

As we want to automate the generator from an outback FX/MX setup, is there
any commercial motor start control unit available that will handle this ??

During the start sequence the key switches the start solenoid.
When switched to stop the ignition and fuel pump are grounded.

The unit would need to determine if starting had occurred and retry if
needed.

Comments appreciated.
