Ian,
I have a March 809-BR-24 in my home's primary loop and Ivans in each
secondary loop; battery-driven, 2-3 years in operation. The El Sids are
somewhat quieter, but not silent; I hear the zone come on at 5:30 am in
winter. The soft sound is carried through the copper pipe, but goes away in
a few minutes as the liquid heats up. Both pumps use the same pump head; the
March uses a brush-type motor, while the El Sid is brushless, so that's the
primary noise difference I note.

We just installed a March pump in a PV-direct SDHW system here, and
it's quite noisy (inside house in an open loft with the tank). I'm
going to try an El-Sid pump instead. Any feedback on noise? Choice of
pumps? Noise suppression?

I'm just about to test a new DC control for PV-direct systems. See
http://www.arttec.net/dtc/. This should improve system efficiency by
avoiding pumping when the collector is colder than the tank.
