Hi,

I've seen customers place a SS washer between the battery post (flag type)
and the battery cable which caused a post melt down. Could he have made that
simple error?

Keith,

Could it be that the connections were not tight enough when the hardware was
changed?

I am very careful when making battery connections to double check that each
post has a very tight connection (give it a wiggle test - and perform this
wiggle test every time the batteries are serviced). Over the years I have
used stainless hardware and sometimes not, and also have sometimes used lock
washers and sometimes not. I can report that I have not seen any difference
in connections coming loose with any of the hardware I've used. Use two
wrenches (so battery post itself receives no torque) and get it very tight,
lead will start to compress. This has worked well for us. - Dave Palumbo

<<We have a situation where we did a project over a year ago and the client
decided to change all of the hardware on the batteries to stainless steel-
nuts, bolts, washers, split bolts. There seems to be issues now with bolts
jiggling off in the last few months, coming loose and one battery- semi
meltdown of a post.

We checked the crimps on the cables and they look clean with no visual sign
of looseness and degradation. Perhaps soldering them after could help and
let it flow into the crimp. Ironically these are IBE batteries and are
usually robust.

I realize stainless isn't the best conductor, but just checking to see what
the general populous thinks about this situation?
