Through careless grammer, I said 3-wire is made only in 1/2 and maybe
3/4 HP -- I meant to say 2-wire. In other words 3-wire IS most
"standard".
And yes, the Grundfos SQ has only 2 wires (not counting ground) but
it is not a normal induction motor like traditional AC well pumps. It
has electronic slow-start. It converts power to DC, then inverts it
to variable frequency 3-phase. It brings the speed up gradually in
about 10 seconds.
So it doesn't fit the normally defined distinction of 2 or 3-wire
pump. Its structure and behavior is completely different.
