Hi Allan,

It's going to take brute force to run the existing Neanderthal 1hp pump.
Outback inverters limit themselves to 50A output, so a pair of them, with a
seriously beefed up battery pack would do the job...but I wouldn't recommend
that route at all! The pump is the problem, fix it and everything gets
easier. Try to work with it and everything is going to be big, expensive,
and difficult.

I'd strongly recommend a smaller soft-start equipped AC pump. The Grundfos
SQ is a good choice, or better yet the AC/DC capable Grundfos SQF which
draws a maximum of 900 watts. Get the right pump in the hole, and your
existing inverter/battery system will be fine as is, and future upgrades can
wait awhile. I'll bet the dumbass pump guy could be persuaded to give some
credit back for his choice, particularly if he's hired to fish it out and
install the right pump.

Cheers,
Doug Pratt

Before we invest in another
inverter, I am asking for some guidance as to whether we can expect it to
work. Do we have to add a second string of batteries? Is there no choice but
to put in a smaller well pump and DC pressure pump, as I had originally
recommended? Any other good ideas?
