Watch the cheap Chinese compressors, or anything else with a cheap motor for
that matter, the motors draw a bunch to start and are really hard to run on
an inverter. You need lots of battery at best to start some of them.

I've had a customer run one of Sears sealed compressors that claimed to be
"5 hp" on a (drum roll please) Trace UX612. So I think as long as you avoid
the old belt drive monsters, you'll be OK. I've got a Sears "2 Hp" with a
12 gal tank that has run for years on a DR2424, and my experience on job
sites with the Outbacks is that they'll run most any 120 v tool. Just stick
with the oil less compressors and you'll be fine.
