Aluminum vs Copper? [RE-wrenches]

Hi Ron,

This is 3 phase wild AC from the turbine with 3 conductors going to the
Proven ECM2502. The math is different for three phase, you do have an extra
conductor carrying the current. The 2500 watt 48 volt calc comes in at 30.07
amps per phase. These values I quoted you for the 300' distance are using a
3 phase calc.

2% voltage Drop = 4/0 copper
3% VD = 2/0 copper
4% VD =1/0 Copper
5% VD =1 AWG copper

You can use the aluminum if you like, just be sure to use an anti-oxidant on
all connections. I don't use aluminum as I don't feel it's as durable.

Sincerely,

Subject: Aluminum vs Copper? [RE-wrenches]

Wrenches,
This may have been discussed previously but would appreciate input. I'm
using a long run of wire 2/0 ga. copper would put me right on the line
for 5% line loss (wind turbine @48v approx. 52 amps max. output, 2.5kw)
. 4/0 aluminum would be about 6.3% voltage drop according to my
calculations. The aluminum is a much bigger piece of wire but less than
half the price. Any comments on working with one vs. the other?
