hey;
       dan here. option 1 sucks power. option 2. works just fine. it was 
actually recommended by one of generac's engineer types a few years ago. we use a 
two pole relay in parallel with the manual side of the rocker switch at the 
unit, and use unit power to trip the coil. then we use a make or break contact 
for control at the inverter. the rocker stays in the off position. i guess you 
can send 12v from an outback aux. out directly to the relay depending  the run 
length.
