Wrenches,
Being in Windy Dankoff's neck of the desert, we care for a few older
off-grid systems that are 32V nominal, as they are based on Jacobs 32V wind
generators. Several years ago we heard from Outback that they could and
would build 32V FX off-grid inverters as needed, on a special order basis.
My understanding is that 32V remains a standard for fishing boats (!). The
difference is that the boats use a "mobile" version, that includes a
relay-controlled switchable neutral-ground bond - it floats when on shore
power and bonds internally when stand-alone.

We ordered a unit for one client and have been told that the non-mobile unit
is no longer available. My guess is that it has to do with keeping the ETL
listing, but anyway:

Has anyone else been able to order a non-mobile unit?
Are there any problems with using a mobile unit in off-grid application? Any
tricks to correct wiring?

(Ruminating here...) Would a mobile unit be a good solution for anyone with
a cheap "contractor's special" generator that had a case/chassis permanently
bonded to the neutral? Other than being listed to UL458 for mobile
applications, of course.

Thank you for any good advice.
