If you run PVC on the roof, you can use expansion fittings, to compensate
for temp extremes. I believe that at times, when conduits are secured too
tightly, the material does not have the opportunity to expand and contract,
causing fasteners- straps, screws to pop.... the next time you are going
over a bridge (and stuck in traffic), look at the fittings- the "couplings"
are usually a braided flex or composite, for this purpose.
Perhaps the RMC is a little over kill, but I can also trip on a sidewalk.
ERICO, makes a foam-rubberized, roof pyramid (with the top cut off), with a
piece of unistrut in the center. This product works well on the roof.

I hope this message gets through. Thank you all for your help and feedback.
I guess you all agree that the NEC does not specify conduit height (just
fastener spacing). I don't have the UBC handy, but don't recall it
specifying conduit height off the deck. The store-bought supports are good
looking. Allan's PVC stand-offs are a good idea. I've seen 4x4 PVC downspout
pieces used and they look good.
Some installers let the conduit supports just sit on the roof. Others fasten
them with nails, screws or roof mastic.
Interestingly, some Los Angeles inspectors require threaded conduit on the
roof because EMT comes apart when people trip over it.
I guess roof conduit blocks and height are determined by local custom or
whatever works.

To the best of my NEC knowledge, there are no restrictions on height above a
roof surface. There are requirements for supporting the conduits.
It would be recommended to keep them off the roof at least 2 inches, for
maintenance of the roof, and also to mitigate the radiating heating effect.

Wrenches,
Some installers mount conduit on 4x4 blocks. Some use 2x4 blocks. Some use
store-bought conduit supports. Does the NEC specify how high of the roof
conduit has to be?
