Hi Allen,

Take a good look at the PVPowered 1800.  Its input voltage range is
120vdc to 360vdc.  We've had exceptionally good performance and support
from them with several hundred in the field.  The Magnetek Aurora 3000
has an exceptionally wide voltage window, 150vdc to 540vdc.  Its priced
very competitively and has 2 independent MPPT's.  We've been running one
here on our inverter test wall for several months with good results.  It
wakes up earlier and runs later than most.  I think there's around a
hundred or so in the field and have heard no reports of problems.

Here's (another) interesting one...We have an unusual request from a
local
architect whose neighbor to the south wants to put up a multistory
building
that would severely shade his business building.

New Mexico has a solar rights law from 1977 that establishes that "the
right
to use the natural resource of the sun's energy is a property right. A
solar
right is the right to unobstructed light from the sun to a solar
collector.
A solar collector means any type of solar device which collects not less
than 25,000 btu's on a clear winter solstice day for the purpose
of: -heating or cooling a building; -heating or pumping water;
industrial,
commercial, or agricultural processes; -generation of electricity."
Turns
out that the law is still in force, and 25,000 btus is about a 3' by 3'
surface--it's collection, not generation.

This person wants a small grid-tied PV system mounted on his roof in
order
to register a solar right and restrict multistory development to the
south.
He has a small roof area (I haven't seen it yet), and so the fewest
number
of modules possible is desireable.

This is especially relevant in that we recently removed 32 KC120s and
Y2K
BOS from an upscale home for one of his professional clients who had
bought
the place. These modules will be donated to a local school, but some of
them
may be available to the architect to use for this purpose. The KC120s
are
12V modules, so minimum voltage is important if these modules are to be
usable here. The Sunny Boy 700 won't work with any module combination,
and
the SB1100 needs at least 11 modules, which is too many.

Who makes the batteryless GT inverter with the lowest threshold array
voltage? Which inverters are the best choice for a very small system? Do
we
have to use 24V modules anyway?

Any advice appreciated.
