I do believe that you see a 1982 mfg date on that unit. I had one mfg in 
1976 that was in poorer condition than that one looks, but looked of 
identical design. The controls were extremely crude, sort of all or 
nothing, maybe old relays, but it did crank out the rated power. I used 
a diversion control to prevent overcharge (heated my water). The rope 
pull start is a bear, really hard, and lots of cranking needed to get it 
going, it's a cold blooded thing. Mine was smooth and quiet once it was 
going, it had a good silencer on it which I don't see on the one in the 
picture. Some of the rubber parts started to fail after just a few 
hours, so I wouldn't expect to get by without some serious maintenance. 
There are so many of these there is probably parts available, but I 
didn't find them.
