Kelly,
Thin film is not inherently shade tolerant. Uni-Solar and other modules with bypass diodes for each cell are more shade tolerant than modules with diodes every 18 cells.

Wrenches,
Is the Sanyo 190 module more tolerant of shading, because of the thin-film
layer, than single crystaline modules? We can't find any info from the
manufacturer on this.
We have a marine application where the customer wants to maximize energy
density on a pilot house. However, there will be soft shading from
antennaes, and a little hard shading from the superstructure. I'm trying to
weigh the output of the higher density, big modules, vs. a smaller array of
more, smaller modules in parallel given the shading issues.
Thanks,
-Kelly
