Very interesting solution. I am curious as to what the efficiency of this
setup vs. the usual Gen to FX to Batteries setup.

I had a similar problem, where on the system supplied
most of the energy, but the generator was needed
rarely.  The gen just did not perform.  SO I took an
auto transformer and connected to the generator to
reduce the voltage to 50% and then placed into
full-wave rectfier and hooked the output to an MX60.
The MX 60 was set to limit the output current.  It did
not matter what the frequency of the generator or
voltage was, the MX60 takes the DC and charges the
battery.  I used it on a 48 volt system.

Please note I did not have Outback approval, but the
system is about 2 years old and no problems.
