Marco,
If it's MPPT it's PWM, which means Pulse Width Modulated. In laywrenches'
terms, it means that the DC current is electronically broken up into
"pulses" which can be modulated to allow, for example, reduced current for
absorption (i.e. a narrower pulse width). Once broken into pulses, the
voltage and current can be processed and reassembled in any way desired,
which is how MPPT is achieved, and is how arrays can be wired at one voltage
to feed batteries of a different nominal voltage.

The Heliotrope CC60 was the first successful and popular large PWM
controller, I believe (Joel and others would know for sure). The C12 and C40
are good PWM controllers without MPPT. The C30A was a non-PWM controller, as
it used an on-off algorithm with a relay (that failed).

Does this help?
Allan

I've got a customer who would like to combine the benefits of both PWM and
MPPT features in one charge controller. I've never heard of such a thing.
Anything out there that I'm not aware of?
