desulfation of battery [RE-wrenches]

Hello
I know several wrenches have commented on desulfation.
 Well I did not listen, did not have the problem.  My
customer has battery set 3 years old, two years ago he
had discharge, he did not recharge.  Battery sat for 2
years discharged, I tried to charge put 61 volts on 48
volt set held for 8 hrs, charge current sat at zero. 
Is ther any hope?  Desulfators?  this is a 400 AH set,
and of course is expensive.
