Additional notes on hiring concrete and pumpers:

Our local concrete suppliers used to coordinate the pumper... until on one
of our jobs the pump driver rolled his truck off a steep driveway into a
canyon. No one was hurt, but the truck and pumper were destroyed. We were
off the hook because we had arranged to have the driver meet us the day
before to survey the terrain. The concrete dispatcher failed to warn the
pump driver of the steep approach.

If there are ever any risky logistics, i.e steep terrain, narrow
switchbacks, always take the time to have the mix plant and the pump
company send a representative to the site in advance.

Also, ordering the proper aggregate is essential. For pipe mounts, I
suggest a 50/50 pump mix, that is 50% 3/4 and 50% 3/8 rock. For piers, I
like a 100% 3/8 for a better looking sidewall. Concrete work is an art and
a science. I've hired licensed contractors and looked over their shoulders
to learn how a professional handles a given job.
