Nick,
The small Generac line is strictly designed as emergency backup power for
on-grid applications. They have belt drive, a high RPM cheepie engine and
make plenty of noise. The transfer switch is a big part of the unit and I
doubt that it would function properly with an inverter providing the
"utility" power.
Your customer might be happier if you could locate a better, used,
industrial unit for about the same price. Kohler, Lister/Petter and older
Onan units come to mind.
By the way, I don't think that there is a way to use just one 110 volt leg
of the output from a standby Generac if you are using a single inverter, so
you might have to use a balancing X-former.

Esteemed Wrenches,
An off-grid client is looking to save a few $ by going with a Generac
Guardian (air-cooled 12kW model). Any horror stories he should know about
with these? Configurable for full-power at 120VAC? Typical lifespan?
Thanks in advance.
