You require a grounding electrode at each structure, but you then have
two choices when joining separate structures:
1) don't run the equipment bond and bond the neutral to ground in each
structure (this is what utilities do when they bring power to your
home);
2) run the equipment bond, but don't bond the neutral to ground in the
second structure

John's article doesn't cover grid-tie, but the principle is the same.
