Using the standard "20 amp breaker use 12 gauge wire" rule does not seem
appropriate for at least 12 vdc systems.

Thanks Christopher for being so thorough in responding to my situation.  The
DC circuits in this system are very small (the 3amp radio, LED night lights,
etc.) and so I didn't think a 10 gauge wire was justified.  I see (very
clearly) that I should have fused much more tight to the loads and I will be
putting an OBDC5 in these circuits.
