Allan,
Check to make sure the module is not reversed polarity, that will drain
the battery pretty well, but probably not the siuation here since it
sounds like the generator started for a while.
Even without a blocking diode your net charge will be greater than the
nighttime discharge by a wide margin.
If the generator is taking a long time to start and not running long
enough to recharge the battery it will slowly go down. Two ways to fix
this; one is make the generator run longer when exercising, or put a
larger module on the starting battery.
