Thanks for that, William, it is on my list once I get down that way (220
miles).  Another local wrench also mentioned that here in WI it has been
quite dry and the ground rods are in sandy soil.  Could be a combination
of things, as 'things' often are.
Thanks for all your thoughts.  If anything becomes apparent I'll post
the results.

Just speculating here...  Could it be that one of the Deltas, due to 
exposure to a spike, has become more sensitive and is shorting out on
very 
minor induced spikes from a lightning hit some distance away?  I'd try 
replacing them, maybe one at a time?  I'm from California where
lightning 
is rare, so I don't pretend to be an expert.
