Allan,

Rather than making the main service panel be 300A, we prefer to make a
main tap, then run to a fused AC disconnect with fuses rated at 50% of
the inverter sub panel buss, and the buss rated at 200% of the inverter
breakers. This meets NEC690.64, and is not too big a hassle.

Can't wait for 2005 code...

Kirk,
This is an appropriate method. We did this with 2 1800s and 2 1100s
recently, and it took 6 breaker spaces--you'd The smallest box that
could do this is a QO8-16/100RB, though I might pick a bigger box just
to have more warehouse space for wiring. However, a couple of notes of
caution:
1. You must size the conductors between the AC combiner box/breaker
panel for 60A @ 240 VAC with ~1% voltage drop. Size your conduit
accordingly.
2. At 15A X 4 = 60A AC, your main residential service panel must be at
least 300A.
Hope this helps.

I am installing a 10KWP system using 4 Sunnyboy 2500 watt inverters. On
the AC side, it would be most convenient to backfeed a subpanel with the
4 outputs, then have a single 240 circuit between the sub and main
panel, roughly 100' away. It beats running 4 seperate circuits directly
to the main, and I can also monitor total array output with a single KWH
meter this way. Any pitfalls to this method?
