hybrid grid tie [RE-wrenches]

Hello everyone
Thanks for all chiming in.
Bill, this is one of those Hawaiian 4 million dollar homes. There is
zero room for it in the garage. They made a huge mechanical room for the
plethora of equipment. The solar was in the initial design elements, but
was only to be grid tie. The thought of batteries and other
accoutrements came later. It is typical here with custom homes- plans
via napkin. I just thought this would have been a better alternative to
mitigate the a. lack of conduit to the dungeon, and b. give the client
close to what they wanted. If the power goes out, they can't get out of
their house- garage door opener, gate and all of the locks are
electronic (small UPS solved dilemma 3). The also realized they didn't
want their sushi to get warm.

Keith,

Why do the inverter/batteries/control center need to be at the house? I
would put it out at the array and step up with a 240 transformer for
lower
losses.

Bill.

Hello Wrenches

Here is a situation I need help with. I have a client who wants grid tie
and battery back up. The location for the array will be on a garage
approximately 260 feet away. It will be 20- 160 watt modules. The
inverters/batteries/control center will be in the main house basement.
Is it appropriate, due to the huge voltage drop and cost of 4/0 wire, to
install a sunnyboy 2500 at the garage, and feed the output of the
Outback stacked inverter system? I think I could avoid buying a charge
controller and save some dough, and also save $ on the wire run. It will
accomplish the goal of battery backup, which the client desires. Will
this work? Anyone tired or thought of this application?

Thanks
