You save much more if you just buy the whole package from a Lister
distributor. This keeps Onan and their oh-so-weird CARB kit out of the
picture. This applies only to us Kalifornyans.
Lister/Petter engines are in heavy use all over the world in industrial,
marine and military applications, but mainly in Diesel configuration. When
they do a propane/natural gas build, they use the same Diesel engine but
replace the injectors with spark plugs and add a 3-coil ignition system. The
end result is an engine that will last till Doomsday (was that November 2d?)
when run on propane since the bearings are all gigantic, having been made
for a 20/1 compression ratio instead of 7/1.
Onan came up with their own crankcase ventillation control and
re-breather system for the gaseous fuel build that doesn't always dissipate
internal pressure - at least not without blowing some oil past the lifter
tubes. Lister's own system never has this problem; plus, they don't cost
quite as much!
There is one caviat to all this praise though, and that is the 7 kW, 2
cylinder version. These things shake like Elvis on meth! If you do use this
model be sure to order the remote instrumentation package and mount it on
the wall of that generator shed with the concrete floor. My fav. is the 3
cylinder 12 kW, which only has a mild vibration level and never gives any
problems.

HI All,
An Onan I just looked at 15kw used an Lister Petter on propane no less.
It came in a weather enclosure, priced around $8-9000 ( can't remember
exactly) but if you got this same unit in the SOUND ENCLOSURE, it was
around
$15000. Much cheaper to buy the weather enclosed and then add the sound
kit, save around $5000. Why? can't tell ya.
