Hi y'All,
Matt is right magnetic descalers do work.

UK link: http://www.electronicdescaler.com/Cas_4.htm

Canadian Link: http://www.oceta.on.ca/profiles/magnatek/magnatek_tech.html
I have seen these on one customers home, but they couldn't tell if it
worked. However there was no scale buildup on the fixtures, and the
electric water heater has been in use for many years. This is in a hard
water area of the central valley.
This looks like a good candidate for off grid houses.

Industrial descalers

UK Link re: Kyoto protocol and electronic descaler contribution to
emissions reduction, good arguments why the US should ratify the Kyoto
Protocol. http://www.engineeringtalk.com/news/enh/enh100.html

Slovak Link: 12 V DC 100mA

This looks like a good candidate for grid tied houses.

UK ajudication (judgment) on advertising claims for electronic descaler
http://www.asa.org.uk/adjudications/show_adjudication.asp?adjudication_id=31783&from_index=by_media&dates_of_adjudications_id=all
Judgement was that descalers do prevent scale buildup, but it takes
longer than 8 weeks to remove old scale deposits.

There is a GSA (Federal Government) approved fixed magnet descaler but I
can't find my notes, I'll post an update when I find it.
