I've had bad luck with Armaflex. It not only photo degrades, it also
does not hold up well to temps nearing 200'F. Tight elbows and
compressed areas (where taped) start to shrink/melt as low as 180', even
though I think it is rated to something like 208.

My last job I used standard fiberglass (one inch wall) with the PVC
jacketing and pre-formed elbows and such. Don't use the tape for the
jackets, rather small wipes of PVC cement. Pricey, but rated to
something like 1,200'.

For really effective UV protection for Armaflex and Rubatex ,
I use fibered duct mastic, which can be tinted with latex paint
.Virtually
permanent.! Be sure to compress the insulation some as it shrinks [
shortens ] with time and temperature, thus causing gaps at the joints.
Be sure not to use the polyethylene insulations for exterior or any pipe
that might see 212+, as it will melt.

Brad,
Armaflex and Rubatex are the long-time standards, usually available
through
plumbing suppliers or Smitty. Paint it with exterior latex paint for
protection against UV degradation.

Hi,

I'm looking for some high quality, easy to install pipe insulation for
outddoor use on solar thermal panels. What is there? Where to get it?
