Alan,

As Bill said, "The tough part is getting laminates approved for overhead
glazing."

We have done a number of BIPV glazing projects, including overhead
glazing, and except for a few European products such as the Saint-Gobain
Glass PROSOL modules and the ASE thin film products (available only if
ordered directly from Europe) most laminates have not been designed with
building code requirements in mind. This has required extra consultation
with the inspectors, regulatory folks etc.

Nonetheless, UL 1703 "Flat-Plate Photovoltaic Modules and Panels"
Section 17 does require that a module superstrate comply with:

a) ANSI Z97.1-1984, Performance Specficaitons and Methods of Test for
Safety Glazing Material Used in Buildings;

b) Code of Federal Regulations, Title 16 CPSC Part 1201 - Safety
Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials; or

c) an impact test described in Section 29 of UL 1703

Therefore, check with the module manufacturer and obtain supporting
documentation. You may be OK with a UL listed PV module. Last time I
spoke with Atlantis, UL listing was extra and expensive.

The BIPV modules from Europe do not carry UL listing, but they have TUV
and DIN listings and we have been successful with our inspectors
accepting the modules after a CSA field inspection.
