Joel.
I have to second Todd's assessment of the grid tie with backup situation. With poor Xantrex efficiency plus the need for the silly GTI option it was a real stretch to justify. But with the new GVFX's I almost feel I am cheating a customer to sell them a simple grid tie system. I just did a bed and breakfast where the power is unreliable and they needed power 24/7. Will be doing another grid tie with backup soon where the customer simply wants more security for the future. I'm working on designing two grid tie with backup systems now that will use six GVFX3648 and the other will have four. They are commercial facilities that will replace their generators now used for backup. All of this is now possible simply because Outback decided to think outside the box and design some truly impressive equipment.
BTW GVFX3648 ser# 004 in the office has been working flawlessly since being installed three months ago and so far it has supplied back up without a hitch for all of the computers, routers, and server as well as total office loads and even shop tools on three outages. That's one per month. They all happened during the day so the backup was running without any batteries. Only on ultracapacitors. No problems even when power was down for over an hour. The Outback efficiency seems just slightly less than a 2500 SMA mounted next to it when connected to a similar array.
