Hi John,

Real Goods has sold tons of little backyard solar fountain pumps over
the years. The only ones I recommend (and oh how I wish they were the
only ones we sold!), are the Oase brand Aquasolar pumps. These are
German brushless pumps designed for solar-direct use. I have the
prototype for what's now the model 200 in my backyard. In six years of
year-round use, I've had to disassemble it only once to pluck out all
the accumulated hair wrapped around the impeller. They don't do a lot of
lift, but the wattage requirements are very low, and they run for damn
near forever. Expensive initially, and worth every penny in customer
satisfaction.

We also sell a $50 floating solar fountain which has a motor that is
neither serviceable or even replaceable. It usually lasts about one
summer. Doesn't give solar a good name, promotes a throw-away
society...and we can't get enough of the damn things. (The world is full
of idiots I conclude.)

Cheers,
Doug Pratt

Subject: Solar fountain pump. [RE-wrenches]

Hi,
Now with a retail store attached to our installing business, we are
getting lots of requests for stuff of which we have little direct
knowledge. The
request of the month is for a small submersible pump which can run
directly off
a PV panel and make a small fountain. We saw one demonstrated at MWREF
but
failed to get info on it. Anyone had good results from a particular
pump...
longevity, etc. It seems that a lot of people here in Vermont have
small ponds
on their properties but no moving water.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
