To those of you engaged in dialog in response to my post -- you all are
numero uno in my book. I have received a very balanced perspective on
potential mounting scenarios. In this case, I have a Cal-Pac roof laid over
asphalt comp. There is an attic to measure out rafters and ensure
structural connection. The homeowner is a retired contractor to whom I can
lay out the pros and cons and let him make the decision to proceed or not.

Another thought. Isn't the asphalt comp roof the actual water barrier in
this case? If so (and the homeowner suggested this), why couldn't we make
cut-outs for jacks in the Cal-Pac over the rafters and mount directly to the
comp roof? Besides extra labor, my concern would be how to seal the Cal-Pac
to prevent water and debris from collecting underneath it. Your additional
feedback is welcome.

Mucho thanks again!
