Dedicated pole transformers for grid tie [RE-wrenches]

Utilities sometimes have to upgrade the transformer when distributed
generation is added to the circuit because they consider DG as an added
load. Transformer upgrades are often done at the customer's expense. What
kind and how many kW is the grid tie?

Subject: Dedicated pole transformers for grid tie [RE-wrenches]

Hi RE-wrenches,

Our local utility (Long Island Power Authority)requires a dedicated pole
transformer for all grid tie installations. The transformer is
installed at the utilities expense, but I believe it is not really
needed.

How many of you are on utilities that require a dedicated transformer?
