Currently the OutBack FX series is either/or - that is, there is only
one set of AC input terminals. We did include the input settings for
both Grid and Gen so it is easy to manually switch between via the MATE
but it requires an additional manual AC transfer switch and therefore is
not automatic.
We are working on a two input automatic AC transfer switch which will
"talk" with the inverters so that the settings are automatically
switched from Grid to Gen or vice-versa. No hard time frame on this
part at this time - it will be reverse compatible but will require an
upgrade to the MATE code in order to be incorporated onto the OutBack
MATE/HUB network.
The grid-tie versions of the OutBack inverters (GTFX and GVFX) are still
very picky about the generators they can be used with - they will
connect to any reasonable quality generator but they won't necessarily
battery charge from the generator at a significant rate. We are working
on this at this time and should have a solution in the near future.
Upgrading existing units will be possible but will require a computer
board or unit swap-out.
Thanks for the question!
