  Hi Tom,

I've been monitoring the RE Wrenches List now for a few months, on behalf of my employer, UniRac. The most recent vollies of banter have raised some eyebrows around here, and an official response to the accusations will be posted soon to set the record straight. Your response to Mr. Owens' posting also raised some eyebrows around here. My boss, Hal Newman, wrote this to me when I forwarded your note to him:

  Steve -

Why not give him a call and ask him to clarify his comments. I think he's saying that if an inspector requires the removal of the system after the building department approved the original plans that the building inspector must authorize a payment to the contractor for the extra work he is performing. If so, who actually must write the check to the contractor?

The buiilding department? How does this work in theory - and in practice.

  Hal

Would you care to comment? Also, I'm wondering if you are the same Tom Lane who was affiliated with the Eberhard School in Washington D.C. back in the early 70's?

              Thanks for your time.

  Steve Fain
