GDS Scam [RE-wrenches]

Travis,

We've had calls as well. Couple different times over a 2-3 week
period. Joy (my wife/office mate) handles our incoming calls and she has a
finely honed crap meter for this kind of stuff. The guy insisted on
talking to the "president of the company", though, and the first time, she
let him through because he did make it sound as if he was from the DOE. I
never found out what the cost was because I told him to cut to the chase
after about the first 10 seconds. When he wouldn't, I hung up, and he
called right back and started hurling the insults.

The next time he tried, a couple of weeks later, Joy was on to him and
refused to let him speak with the "president". The guy insisted he had
done "extensive research" on our company, so Joy asked him what our
president's name was, and he didn't know. Another round of insults ensued
(he accused Joy of either having a stammer or being an idiot), and that
ended that attempt. We haven't heard from him since, although we're not
keeping regular hours right now so he may still be trying.

I'm more puzzled than angry. If you're interrupting someone's day to try
to sell them a lot of something that they neither need nor want, how is
name calling and insulting supposed to help? I mean, if you're going to go
to all of the trouble (and risk) of running a scam, don't you at least want
it to be as successful a scam as it can be?
