Utility raids CEC rebate funds for 5 MW solar project [RE-wrenches]

Not only does this stink, but the price is outrageous!

$60,000,000 for 5 MW = $12 per watt. What a great job. Yes, some larger
installs have some added costs, but oh my, we're doing jobs out here
everyday for $8 per watt installed, and commercial is around $6.50 to $7.50.
And yes, we pay a living wage, all required taxes, insurance, OSHA
compliance, etc.

Just shows that utilities truly are the worst people to install solar
(perhaps those who work with SMUD will defend them, but they are not your
average utility.)

If this goes through the money will be raided from less than 30kW
account which would definitely hurt residential wrenches.

I believe the CEC, who has the final vote, will kill this deal.

SCE press release: http://www.edison.com/media/indiv_pr.asp?id=4673

Global Solar is supposed to install the system. www.globalsolar.com

Global Solar, TrueSolar, TruePricing and Tucson electric Power are all
owned by UniSource Energy.

BTW... The deciding vote of approval for this project was cast by CPUC
Commissioner Peevey, who used to be the Founder and CEO of TruePricing
and before that was President of SCE.

This stinks.

Is the possible/likely final approval of this going to affect the CEC
buydown money for larger systems over 30 kW or is it going to suck up
money for 1-29 kW systems as well? Either way, it sounds like a bad
thing for many CA. wrenches.
