I failed to mention a significant disadvantage of the sealed AGM battery: 
it is - the lower end of charge regulation setpoint 14.1 for an AGM means 
that the mismatch that exists between the peak power point of most pv 
panels (apprx. 17. vdc  a la 12vdc system) is greater when charging a AGM 
than when charging a wet lead acid 14.7-14.9. This means that without a 
MPPT tracker there is a small but significant efficiency advantage using a 
wet lead acid with a dumber PWM controller - which are abundant and the 
norm. BTW my Lab can rip a historically bad one occasionally.
