Inverters at custom voltages attention Outback and others [RE-wrenches]

Daryl,
You have to keep in mind that inverter manufacturers have to select a
limited number of standard models to bring to market. An unlimited number of
standard models negatively affects the bottom line. Some companies may be
able to produce a custom inverter for you but you'll have to pay for that -
its non-trivial (not just the transformer) and you'd probably need to
guarantee a very sizable order to justify it.
Manufacturers of off-grid inverters have probably stayed in the 12-48 VDC
range so that they don't size themselves out of the market. A 120 volt
nominal DC system requires array and battery building block increments of 10
(12V) modules and 20 (6V) batteries - this ends up significantly reducing
design flexibility.
Hope this helps,
E. H. Roy

Subject: Inverters at custom voltages attension Outback and others
[RE-wrenches]
Open question to Outback and other inverter
manufactures.
If Outback makes or could make inverters that operate
at 12,24,36,48 nominal volts, and the only change is
the transformer; Why couldnt one or two inverters
be made at 60 or 120 volts for standalone
applications? At a reasonable price? I will buy a
2.5 or 3kW inverter if the price is reasonable working
at 120 volts DC and 120 volts AC.
Thanks Daryl
