Thanks Hugh,

BTW, I should have added one of those :) things at the end of that
message.

The Trace C- series controllers have the same charging parameters
when used in diversion load control as they do in PV control mode.
However the charging voltage set-points are not adhered to very
accurately in gusty conditions. The controller has a time lag in its
response. The lag is about 5-10 seconds. Threfore the voltage can
swing by 5% or more. In the extreme case this can cause the inverter
to trip on over-volts.

PV is a much more predictable and constant source than wind. Systems
are designed with very careful load analysis so as to match the
supply and demand. Wind systems by contrast typically suffer a
'feast and famine' cycle whereby there are times where it is
appropriate to be profligate with energy (and the battery can easily
be equalised) and other times where it may be appropriate to test the
deep cycle capability of the battery to a greater extent than would
be prudent on a weekly basis.

It is much harder to say 'what you can run' off a wind system because
no two years are the same. And no site can be accurately assessed.
And accurate performance data is scant in any case.

The charge controllers supplied with wind turbines are not usually as
sophisticated as the Trace C-series, but at least they operate at a
stable voltage instead of lagging behind the action like the Trace.
